Clean Energy: The Winning Card For A Sustainable Future

By tataadmin, 28 January, 2026

Clean energy is no longer a buzzword within the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) ecosystem. It has become a defining pillar of large-scale infrastructure development in India-an imperative rather than a choice.

Over the past few decades, EPC projects have evolved in response to the nation’s expanding energy needs. At Tata Projects, we recognised early that integrating clean-energy solutions into infrastructure is not optional; it is fundamental to sustainable growth and future readiness.

Understanding Clean Energy
Clean energy is best understood by its impact rather than its source alone. It spans solutions that materially reduce emissions, enhance energy efficiency, and lower environmental footprint across the lifecycle of large infrastructure and industrial projects.

While green energy typically refers to renewable sources such as solar and wind, clean energy has a wider application. All green energy is clean, but clean energy also includes efficiency-led design, cleaner fuels, process optimisation, and emerging technologies such as green hydrogen. Together, these form the backbone of pragmatic decarbonisation at scale.

For Tata Projects, clean energy is about engineering lower-carbon outcomes through intelligent design, advanced construction methodologies, and technology integration, enabling clients and communities to transition sustainably without compromising reliability or scale

Driving the Transition on the Ground
At Tata Projects, we are actively contributing to India’s clean-energy journey through large-scale execution, technology integration, and strong industry partnerships-each aligned to sustainability and carbon reduction.

Our role as a nation-builder is reflected not only in the projects we deliver, but in how clean energy is embedded across our portfolio- from renewable integration to energy efficiency and responsible execution.

Reinforcing the Vision, Starting at Home
As with every meaningful transformation, our clean-energy journey begins internally.

Energy-conservation initiatives across our projects speak for themselves. Large-scale LED street-lighting programs in cities such as Pune, Nashik, and Noida, delivered through innovative Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models, have enabled measurable reductions in power consumption while supporting smart-city development.

Similarly, the deployment of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) across major infrastructure projects, including Navi Mumbai International Airport and the HRRL Refinery Complex in Rajasthan, has resulted in significant energy-efficiency gains.

Advancing New-Age Energy Solutions
Our clean-energy focus extends decisively into emerging technologies. A recent collaboration with a leading US-based green hydrogen technology company, enables the design, manufacture, and deployment of advanced Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzers, supporting scalable and cost-effective green-hydrogen production.

Investing in Indigenous R&D
Innovation remains central to sustainability. Our MoU with CSIR–Indian Institute of Petroleum (CSIR-IIP) has led to the indigenous development of Green Diesel produced from used cooking oil, an energy-efficient alternative that is now replacing fossil-based diesel in construction equipment and generators.

Looking Ahead
India’s Net Zero ambitions are bold-and rightly so. At Tata Projects, we have embraced this challenge with conviction, taking tangible steps to reduce environmental impact while continuing to deliver complex infrastructure at scale.

As UNDP’s Achim Steiner aptly states:
“The clean energy future isn’t just possible or desirable, it is essential.”

That belief underpins everything we do.
