Leadership has a purpose
In my journey as a leader, I have often reflected on what it truly means to lead. Is leadership defined by the authority of a title, or is it about empowering others to achieve their best while contributing to something larger than ourselves?

My leadership philosophy owes much to the mentors who shaped me. My first mentor, Mr. Suhas Mokashi, instilled in me the values of curiosity and discipline. Mr. Dheerendra Joshi, the ex-MD of Aker Solutions, demonstrated the strength of clear thinking and decision making with purpose. Later, Mr. Gary Mandel, President ECR at Jacobs, guided me in navigating the complexities of executive roles with courage and speed.

Reflecting on their impact, I am filled with gratitude for the guidance, wisdom, and patience they offered me. What united these leaders was their unwavering commitment to putting people first. They taught me that true leadership is not about being in the spotlight but about enabling others to shine. This ethos of servant leadership has since been my guiding principle. I believe it has the potential to transform not just teams and organizations but also societies.

The essence of servant leadership
At its core, servant leadership is about fostering trust, empathy, and accountability. It is not about relinquishing authority but about wielding it with wisdom—to uplift others, listen deeply, and create a shared vision that inspires collective action. This transforms leadership from a position of power into a role of purpose.

This philosophy resonates with the idea of quiet leadership. While charismatic and vocal leaders often capture attention, quiet leaders are the unsung heroes of any organization. Look around and you will notice them. Quiet leaders lead by example, listening attentively, creating growth opportunities, and fostering stability in times of uncertainty. Their strength lies in humility and consistent action, which naturally earn them respect. Gratitude is also a hallmark of these leaders. Nurturing these individuals is essential, as their calm and compassionate leadership builds resilient teams and lasting trust.

Leadership has a purpose
Beyond organizational boundaries, I view leadership as a means to contribute to a larger purpose—India’s growth story. As the nation aspires to become a $5 trillion economy, the opportunities span sectors such as infrastructure, manufacturing, renewable energy, and advanced technology. At Tata Projects, we are proud to play a pivotal role in this journey, supporting initiatives like Make in India and executing projects that improve lives and build the nation.

Yet, my vision goes beyond economic milestones. I dream of an India where every child has access to quality education, where sustainability serves as a cornerstone for progress, and where businesses operate with a deep sense of integrity and purpose.

Personally, I find great fulfilment in supporting causes that align with this vision. Education for underprivileged children remains a cause close to my heart because it is the most powerful lever for societal transformation. Mentoring young professionals is another passion. Sharing lessons from my journey, I aim to inspire the next generation to lead with confidence, compassion, and responsibility.

Let us collaborate
Leadership, to me, is a shared journey. It thrives on collaboration, which is at the core of Tata Projects’ values. This collaborative ethos aligns seamlessly with servant and quiet leadership. It reminds us that success is never a solo act but the result of teamwork, mutual respect, and collective effort. As leaders, we are not just stewards of our teams but also hosts, creating an environment where everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute.

I am committed to leading with gratitude, fostering holistic growth, and encouraging collaboration. To my colleagues at Tata Projects and to leaders across industries, I urge you to embrace this philosophy of servant leadership, quiet leadership, gratitude, and collaboration. Let us lead with empathy, act with purpose, and dream big—not just for ourselves but for our teams, our communities, and our nation. Together, we can build a future defined by shared success, enduring trust, and meaningful progress.
